You’ll find Brunei to be an expensive destination; so be prepared. Some regions of Brunei are difficult to visit alone – you may find it easier to visit some areas of the country with a tour group.

Brunei was a under the rule of the United Kingdom until 1984, and as a result has much British influence. The country is located on the North Shore of the island of Borneo. It is one of the world’s smallest countries, but is also one of the most oil rich. Bandar Seri Begawan is the country’s main center for government, commerce, finance and culture.

Brunei is an outdoor lover’s paradise, with some of the world’s most unspoiled treasures. You’ll find some of the world’s most intact rainforests here, particularly in the Ulu Temburong National Park. Here you’ll find lots of beautiful plants, native rainforest wildlife and a beautiful waterfall. For the more adventurous traveler, there’s also a difficult trek into the deeper parts of the jungle.

Be certain to visit Bandar Seri Begawan, with its picturesque water villages and its many museums and mosques. There are enough historical and architectural attractions in the city center to keep you busy for several days.

You’ll also find some incredible beach resorts in Brunei; many located less than 10 miles from the airport. Even if you choose not to sightsee at all, you’ll love the beautiful beaches and warm water. The weather is warm in Brunei all year, and the rainy season is from September through January.

Take the speedboat ride from Bandar Seri Begawan to Bangar. The boat ride itself is spectacular and thrilling, and you’ll love the tiny town of just about 3 blocks once you arrive.

There is just one airport in Brunei, but it is fairly easy to get into the country from Jakarta, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. There are also boats that operate between Brunei and Sabah or Sarawak.
