Phnom Penh, the country’s capital, is a great place to begin your journey into Cambodia. This city is busy and full of commerce and political activity. And, of course, you’ll want to visit Angkor, with all its temples. Of particular interest is the Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious building. If you’d like to see yet another beautiful temple, travel to Prasat Preah Vihear, where you’ll see spectacular stone sanctuaries surrounding a massive mountain temple. The terrain is rough, here, but the view of the temple makes it worth the trip.
But, don’t overlook some of the less traveled destinations in Cambodia. Be certain to take a visit, for example, to the Koh Kong Conservation Corridor. This area is an outdoor lover’s paradise. You can explore jungles, see pristine beaches and admire the many beautiful waterfalls in this part of Cambodia. If you want a day or two just to relax, the beaches here are the perfect spot.
Koh Ker is also a great stop on your Cambodian adventure. Here you can wander the ruins of Cambodia’s 10th century capital. When you’re ready for a city that’s a bit more modern, travel to Siem Reap, where you’ll find plenty of great restaurants, nightlife and a beautiful riverfront.
