Philippines travel tips & advice

Visiting the Philippines will be a real treat for scuba divers. There is great wreck diving around Coron and the opportunity to dive with whale sharks around Donsol. And, even if you don’t dive, you’re bound to appreciate the white sandy beaches and warm water. The beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world. Sipalay is one of the quietest and most beautiful beach areas. For the beachcomber who also wants to party, visit Boracay.

Manila is the capital city, and it can come across as cold and gaudy at the same time. It’s worth a visit if you like shopping and nightlife, but the real treasures of these islands lie outside Manila.

You’re certain to want to visit Vigan, considered the finest Asian example of a Spanish colonial town. The Spanish architecture and cobblestone streets are sure to woo you into an extra day or two. For a peek into traditional Filipino life style, pay a visit to the Rice Terraces, where the Philippines agricultural heritage got its start. This area is also a great place to pick up a handmade wood carving – nearly as many residents of the Rice Terraces carved wood as grew rice.
