Situated in the southwestern Pacific, just east of Papua New Guinea, is the island cluster of the Solomon Islands. Because of the out-of-the-way location of the islands not many visitors have come here over the years. Solomon Island is, however, building on its tourism industry, and this lost paradise is becoming quite the sought-after travel destination.

Many people come to the Solomon Islands to see the incredible marine life found here. The best diving is on the islands of Gizo and New Georgia. See the colorful fish, and coral reefs, or take a diving tour to some of the WWII wrecks laid to rest on the ocean’s floor. For the land-lover take a tour of the rainforests that cover most of the land.
As you walk through the rainforest, listen for the call of the indigenous birds that make their home there. Muse at the exotic orchids and ferns found within the forests boundaries, and watch closely to catch a glimpse of one of the thousands of butterflies that flutter silently through the air.
There are all kinds of wildlife. Some indigenous to the islands and some coaxed into island habitation by man. There are reptiles of many different species, birds of countless number, and marsupials like fruit bats and opossums. If the thought of animals makes you a tad nervous, consider a day trip to the island of Guadalcanal and her surrounding sister islands.
You can see the battlefields where brave men and boys fought during WWII; there’s a museum, and botanical gardens filled with a tapestry of natural color. The serenity of it will make you want to stay forever. There’s also a tour to the island of Malaita, a place seashells are still manipulated, and use as bartering items, or strung together into necklaces to denote status among the villagers.
