TN Visa Requirements

These are the basic requirements to qualify for the TN Visa:
  • You are a Canadian, Mexican citizen
  • You have been offered a job by a U.S. employer
  • The job you intend to engage in is one of the approved professions listed in NAFTA Appendix 1603.D
  • You are qualified to work in this job
  • The job offered is temporary in nature, up to a maximum stay of one year
  • TN Visa Jobs – Interviewing successfully

Once you’ve determined which NAFTA Occupation you will qualify for, find a job in this field. Most employers are aware of the H1-B visa to hire a person. This visa is expensive, requires a lawyer, can take up to 2 months to obtain is a sponsorship visa.

The TN Visa does not have these drawbacks. To have a successful interview and obtain the job, you need to understand the complete TN Visa process and be able to explain to your potential employer (in the interview) how you will be able to quickly create the TN Visa and be working within the next couple of weeks.

    TN Visa Employer/Application Letter

The TN Visa Employer/Application Letter is the key component in your TN Visa application. It is not the job offer letter. This letter is for the Immigration Officer and shows how your job qualifies for the TN Visa, how you qualify for the job, how you qualify under NAFTA and addressing other criteria to meet the NAFTA specifications.

In most cases, with a little knowledge and help, you can write this letter yourself. Here is an article on how to write a great TN visa application letter to assist you (from TNVisaExpert).

    TN Visa Border Process

Being prepared for the border is one of the most important aspects of the TN Visa process. The immigration officer’s primary purpose is to protect his country – if he has any reason to doubt you or your application – YOU WILL BE DENIED. A worst case scenario could have you barred from the U.S. for up to 5 years.

Knowing what documentation to bring, what questions to expect, and how to be prepared for the interview process will increase your success rate dramatically.
