Criminal backgrounds

If we travel or live abroad, we usually come back to visit right? Here's a the place to meet other "re-pats" and Canadians who have returned.

Criminal backgrounds

Post Mon Mar 19, 2012 6:27 am

Hey everyone,

Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this, but maybe someone can help anyway.

My bf is a U.S citizen with a criminal background. My question is because of his record, if we were to get married (in the U.S. because he can't cross the border) would he be allowed to cross after since he would be married to a Canadian?

He said he has been doing some research on it and from what he's read (not sure where he got it) he can't be denied access to Canada if he starts a business here or marries someone who is a citizen.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks for your response. That's what I thought and told him whatever he was reading was wrong. Unless he was talking about moving here and not just visiting. I didn't even think it would be possible for him to move here because of his record either...
