About Colonial Gardens Bed & Breakfast

Built in 1877 as the private home of prominent businessman, Thomas Smith, the inn has an abundance of class and character and yet the atmosphere is warm and comfortable. Spacious private suites boast tall ceilings, beautiful moulding, fireplaces and whirlpools. New owners are busy updating amenities and furnishings. Full, hot breakfast is delivered to your door each morning, and the coffee and fresh baked goodies are always avaiable. Location couldn’t be better as it is walking distance to all historic Downtown Sturgeon Bay has to offer.

Sturgeon Bay is the perfect spot from which to base your Door County visit and the Colonial Gardens Bed & Breakfast is a stroll away from some of the best of the best in town.

The historic downtown district is just steps from our front door and offers terrific shopping and dining experiences. We have four museums in town and four lovely waterfront parks. Potawatomi State Park is just a short five mile drive or bike ride away.

The Leathem Suite

This handsome, 2-room suite is distinguished by gorgeous oak floors, 12- foot ceilings with plaster cast medallions, a crystal chandelier and crown moldings. A stately 4-poster bed is the centerpiece of the bedroom, but the deep bay window seat plays a strong supporting role. Relax in the living room area in front of your wood-burning fireplace, enjoy the double whirlpool tub and don’t forget to spend some time out on the magnificent front porch.

Blue Parlor Suite

As you enter this elegant blue-toned 2-room suite, you are greeted by a lace-festooned 4-poster canopy bed with a garden view and the double sided gas fireplace. Romantic charm continues in the living area with a large sitting area, breakfast table in a big bay window, a hopelessly out of tune upright piano and a double whirlpool. Add the access to the big front porch to your living space and it’s easy to see why this suite is so popular.

Captain’s Suite

A commanding view of Sturgeon Bay’s historic shipyards (founded by the home’s builder) is the centerpiece of the Captain’s Suite. This majestic 2-room suite boasts maple floors, 10-foot ceilings and a huge French country pine bed. In keeping with the Colonial period palette, rich hues of red and brown are used, while the Deco-inspired pink bathroom lends a quirky contrast. Enjoy your breakfast at your table set in the big bay window, watch the sun set from the balcony right outside your door, soak your cares away in the big double whirlpool and dream in front of the fireplace.

Bungalow Suite

This suite is decorated with tones of rose and blue reminiscent of a summer afternoon in the garden. The sunken whirlpool tub and sitting area along with a private sitting porch and mirror-mantled fireplace make this cozy suite very popular.

Anna’s Suite

Cream, beige and green adorn this west-facing suite. The double whirlpool is nestled into a set of bay windows with a big maple tree right outside. Watch the sunset from your shared balcony or curl up with a good read in your sitting area. Hardwood floors and a vintage fireplace further help to make this our most requested suite.

Amethyst Room

Cools shades of green and lilac are featured in this sunny and bright east-facing room. Relax on your loveseat in front of the birch framed gas fireplace. Enjoy your delicious breakfast at the oak café table. If you are traveling with another couple, you may want to arrange for them to have the Quiet Rose Room, right across the private hall.

Quiet Rose Room

Quiet and cozy is the feeling you’ll get when you enter this elegant room. Rose, cream and taupe are the colors here. Your cherry framed fireplace is fronted by a stately loveseat – perfect for lounging.
