The Al A’ali Shopping Complex is also a large mall with a diverse offering of goods. But, to really experience some of Bahrain’s culture, shop at one of the open-markets.

The Central Market is perfect for the early riser. Located near the town’s center, this market offers the freshest fish, meat and produce in the area. They shut down for a few hours during the lunch hour so plan accordingly. For a real taste of local shopping culture, visit the Muharraq Sug; also, adjacent to the Central Market is Ramez. Here you can find everything from food and toys to clothing and kitchenware. The dining opportunities are just as diverse.

Select from American and European dishes, or Mexican, Chinese, Japanese and Lebanese. You can also find spicy Arabic food and strong Arabic java as well. The predominate meats are lamb, chicken, turkey and duck. This Muslim country shuns alcohol, but non-Muslims can find some alcohol at night clubs, restaurants and quality hotels. No alcohol is available during Ramadan.

Attractions in Bahrain include world-famous Formula One Racing, the Grand Mosque located in Marina Comish, the first ever oil well in Bahrain, rightly named “Oil Well # 1, and the King Fahad Causeway. This 25 Km-long bridge connects Bahrain with Saudi Arabia and the restaurants, shaped like towers, offer a spectacular view of these two neighboring countries.
