The National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan, located in Dushanbe, houses a collection of artifacts that show just how ancient this area of the world is. Though the exhibits are displayed in a sort of haphazard fashion, they are unique to Tajikistan’s culture and history, and visitors walk away with a newfound respect for the area.

Gorno – Badakhshan has many shrines and other sacred places dedicated to holy men. Sacred stones that were used to burn aromatic herbs and animal fats according to Zoroastrian and Aryan religious traditions are found here. Some of the shrines are the resting place of prominent religious figures or ones where they were thought to have visited at one time in their lives.

The Pamirs region, dubbed “the roof of the world” or “the feet of the sun” (depending on what translation you prefer) of the country is considered one of the last undiscovered tourist attractions. The mountain area, though inaccessible, is absolutely magnificent. Once you’ve seen it you’ll agree it’s like no other place on earth. Tourist are also attracted to this area for everything from alpine climbing and walking tours to passive lounging just to enjoy the serenity of the area.
Gemstones are abundant in the Pamirs and Badakshan regions of Tajikistan. Rubies, lazurit, lapis, jade and a host of other gems can all be found in this area of the country. The scenery of these regions are just as precious as the gems found here.
