The hotel industry has taken a beating over the last year or so due to a reduction in travel because of the slow economy. Still, Choice Hotels continues to open new properties all over the globe. In November, Choice Hotels International opened 33 franchised properties spanning 20 states and three countries.
One of the 33 is the Le Bourget Aero Suites, an Ascend Collection hotel located in Bloomington, Minnesota. This property is a boutique hotel with 160 suites, an indoor heated pool a 24 hour business centre and a fitness centre. There are also two restaurants, and a lobby bar.
Choice Hotels also opened a new Comfort Suites in Gallup New Mexico, just three miles from Red Rock State Park and the Fire rock Casino. This new hotel has an indoor heated pool and hot tub, a fitness centre and meeting space. It’s also one of Choice Hotels’ pet friendly locations.
One of Choice Hotels’ new European properties is in Bloomberg, Germany. The Clarion Collection Burghotel Bloomberg is a 53 room property that includes a spa and wellness centre. It also boasts two restaurants, two cocktail lounges and guests receive free breakfast. The hotel has an indoor pool and an onsite chapel.
With 33 new openings in November, Choice Hotels is one of the few hotel companies continuing to develop and open new properties. Reduced travel due to the poor economy has left a glut of hotel rooms in almost every market; so many hotel companies have put development plans for new properties on hold until the economic situation improves. Industry analysts predict that 2010 will also be a poor year for hotel companies, but most analysts expect the market to rebound partially by the end of 2011.
